Pay under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award changes with the day, the time of day, the employment type and the length of the shift. A shift that runs past midnight into a public holiday, a broken shift or a short casual shift can each change the total. Working it out by hand is slow, and a spreadsheet is only as good as its last update.
Each shift is split by day type and priced at the right percentage of the base rate, for full-time and part-time employees or for casuals.
Monday to Friday shifts that finish after 8pm, or that start before 6am or finish after midnight, pick up the afternoon or night loading.
The 25% casual loading is added to the penalty percentage, not multiplied by it, and the breakdown shows the result.
Mark a shift as having one or two unpaid breaks.
Apply a 2 hour or 3 hour minimum so short shifts are topped up. The top-up is shown separately in the breakdown.
A shift can run up to 24 hours across midnight, with a public holiday option for the start date and for the end date.
Add up to 20 shifts to price a run of shifts, such as a week, and see total hours, allowances and the effective hourly rate.
Each shift is priced at the award rates in force on its start date, and the rate version used is shown with your results.
These are the percentages of the base hourly rate that the calculator applies for the classification and pay point you choose.
| When | Full or part time | Casual |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday, ordinary hours | 100% | 125% |
| Afternoon shift* | 112.5% | 137.5% |
| Night shift* | 115% | 140% |
| Saturday | 150% | 175% |
| Sunday | 200% | 225% |
| Public holiday | 250% | 275% |
*Monday to Friday only, applied to the whole shift. Afternoon means the shift finishes after 8pm and at or before midnight. Night means it finishes after midnight or starts before 6am. Weekend and public holiday rates replace the shift loadings, so they do not stack. The casual loading is added to the percentage, not multiplied. Check these against the current Fair Work Ombudsman Pay Guide.
